Android Question Custom View Variants

I'm working with three custom views in a single layout and two variants (portrait/landscape) created in Visual Designer (I modified the GraphicsFirstSteps tutorial program). Things work fine in portrait but when I turn the phone the landscape variant doesn't invoke.
