date field

hi all im in a bit of a pickle
i have been reading up on the Datetime information in the wiki regarding date formats

basicly all i am looking to do is get a simple date return in a label or messagebox

of dd/mm/yy as in 12/02/13
but all the information i have looked at is either parsing it in unix = long or full date

any help would be grateful
