B4J Question Distributing a standalone console app

Hi, is there a way to distribute a standalone console app (Non GUI). The integrated solution seems to work only for gui apps. Thank you all.

Hello,
You can just distribute the .jar file that can be found in your projects Objects folder.

The user will be able to run the jar by double clicking on it or from the command line with java -jar <jar file>. Java 8+ needs to be installed.

This is different than the case with UI apps where a more complex configuration is required to run the jar file directly.

Apart from being inelegant perhaps, can a gui app that never shows its mainform be used as a substitute for a console app?
It seems simpler to make a standalone package for that then to have to download 400 MB of java separately for a console app?

Why 400 MB? Wouldn't JRE be enough for running the JAR file? JRE is around 80MB I think.

The info I found online seems to suggest that you have to download the whole shebang now, sdk and jdk but i could well be wrong

Yes. Don't show the main form.

(Note that it is not a good solution for jServer solutions)

I don't know whether things have changed for new Java releases, but I've got several computers using my app; they've all got JRE 8, and none has JDK.

I think that is it, that it's no longer possible to do it that way with the newer releases.

Not exactly. Many things happen in the background. The B4X code runs on the main thread.

JRE 8 should be fine for all apps.
