iOS Question Do I really need to update my iPhone to run the latest B4i bridge

Hi, Guys

I just need some clarification before I pay out for a new iPhone.

I am currently using an old iPhone 7 (running iOS v15.8.3) and successfully using with the previous version of B4i v8.80 and its bridge.

In Erel's post B4i v8.90 is available.... states the bridge needs updating.

My concern is that posts #2 and #3 suggest the new Bridge for debugging app will not work on my old iPhone.

So do I really a need a new iPhone for development.

Kind regards
Dave

Solution
B4i-Bridge should work with iOS 15.8. And you can install it with a different package name and have both versions of B4i-Bridge.

Its not about the phone but the B4i IDE v8.90

You need to upgrade to v8.90 for the new bridge to take effect and RUN on your iPhone 7. So UPGRADE to v8.90 is what is needed.

If you can afford to upgrade your phone too, its okay because iPhone 7 is fairly old and no longer receiving new iOS update so at least getting iPhone 11 and up will support new iOS 26, to enable you properly test your apps.

Hi, Thanks for the response

The concern relates to updating to the latest bridge - will it work fully on my old iPhone 7?

In Erel's post B4i v8.90 is available.... post #3 it states "1. You can install B4i-Bridge but it will fail to install your debug app."

My worry that if I install the latest version of the bridge (which runs with B4i 8.90) I can't debug the App.

Dave

Note that post #3 was in relation to the two questions I asked in post #2, which was also related to some questions asked about the New B4i Bridge, which is fully supported by B4i IDE v8.90.

Let me explain it this way.
1. The hosted Builder will install NEW B4I BRIDGE, Whether you use B4i less or equal v8.8 or v8.9+
2. The Bridge with B4i IDE v8.8 or Lower, even though installed, the IDE wont be able to able to LAUNCH DEBUG APP, even though it can install the app. Thats what post #3, point one states workaround
3. The Bridge with B4i IDE v8.9 can install the debug app, and launch it, NORMALLY, like before.

So, in my understanding, upgrading the B4i IDE will solve the problem, or you can UPGRADE both your device and IDE

Hi, Thanks again for the response

I was under the impression that the bridge did not update automatically with new versions of B4i - you have to manually remove and reinstall (your comment suggests otherwise).

I did try to install v8.90 but bridge would not install the App. So I went back to v8.80 and the Bridge worked ok.

If I install the new bridge will it work on my iPhone 7 running iOS v15.8.3 or will it only work on iOS v18+.

If it don't work I am concern that I cannot revert to the original Bridge.

If you currently have B4i Bridge, which you installed with v8,80 working for you. DONT REMOVE IT, continue using it until license expires.

As soon as you remove it and install new Bridge, you will face the debug issue with the v8.80 Unless you use the v8.90

Hi, Still confused.

If you currently have B4i Bridge, which you installed with v8,80 working for you. DONT REMOVE IT, continue using it until license expires
This implies that my iphone 7 is good (if I stick to v8.80) until the license expires.

However
As soon as you remove it and install new Bridge, you will face the debug issue with the v8.80 Unless you use the v8.90
This suggests I can install the new bridge on my iPhone 7 (running iOS v15.8.3) as long as I install the latest B4i v8.90

Can I go back to my simple question
"Can I install the new bridge for B4i 8.90 on my iPhone 7?" - I think the answer is NO.

Dave

Hi Erel
Thanks for your input, I confirm it does work on a iPhone 7 running iOS15.8 - and I also uploaded a App to it's TestFlight just to ensure it works with Apple i-tunes

The only problem is I now have two versions of B4i-Bridge on my phone both named "B4i-Bridge" I will removed the old one once I am happy with B4i v8.90.

Thanks again for all you help

Kind regard
