I thought I might make a vein attempt at bringing this thread back to its original purpose -

My story is not one of financial success but rather of eternal happiness. (deep, I know)
I have many apps on Google play - 83 to be exact.
Some have been mildly successful but most, based on the numbers, one might say they are failures.
Not to me however.

I do this because it is interesting, fun, and challenging.
It is clear that I will never make a living doing this but that is not my goal.
I make about $2 - $3 a day by the way.
Sure, like everyone else, I dream of making those millions but...

Erel has created an amazing opportunity for many of us who otherwise would never have been able to enter this realm.
Almost three years ago I found myself suddenly unemployed and after a week of sitting there I was determined to learn Android programming.
After looking at Eclipse for days on end I was barely able to put a button on the screen.
Then I found B4A and it was as if I was playing with my Commodore VIC20 again. What an amazing feeling.

Some of my apps make little sense.
Lately I've had zombies on my mind -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=zombies.eat.brains
This app has been out a few weeks and has garnered ... wait for it...

3 downloads

But I have fun doing them and they satisfy my weird (maybe dark) sense of humor...

So there you have it. My success story.

BTW:
Eternal thanks to Erel, his products, and unparalleled support on this forum. (Maybe you can give Google a call. They can use some help in this area.)

$3/day is not bad. that's enough to pay back your B4A license and some payed libs.

not bad I said? it's $1000/year which is in my opinion excellent.

I just made it to 4 downloads for you!

I've released a couple of games but only made £5 so far over the last six months from ads. I make far more money selling b4a as an affiliate to tell the truth. But I would love to make enough money from apps to be able to do it full time.

@WAZUMBi you need to get at least 1 person to download it and give it a star rating - ideally 5..! Otherwise I don't think it will figure on many lists anywhere in the playstore.. It's all about momentum. I think you've chosen one of the most crowded spaces as well.. There are pages of Games if you search for Zombies... So I think people will struggle to find your App in amongst them all.

ETA : Also you need to + it on Google as well.

Thanks.

I'm working on another zombie game I'm calling Zombie Dash.
Sort of in the genre of YooNinja.

I figure why should the zombie always be the bad guy.
Here your just a simple zombie trying to eat your brains and get away from the evil dragon.
Should be done in a few weeks.

Good point. I never have really given Google+ much thought.

Anyways, it's all fun and games to me.
I tend to be a little passive about the whole thing.

I put ads in my apps because I think - What the hell?. Why not? But...

The second my focus is on downloads and money the second it stops being fun.
In which case I will go back to building spaceships and dinosaurs with my Legos all day.

Wow. It was hard, painful and long to read all the new posts. And one moment, I have thought, YOU, guys will become crazy about making money.
I am glad to see that you recovered calm and serenity.

If someone is disappointed about his earnings, I only want to provide him a part of hope : you don't need to find the "idea of the year" to be rich. You only have to provide the users what they are asking for and how they want it to be.

From my own experience : I am a freelance since 20 years, I am not a genius and I am asking for help everyday in this forums as many of you know. But I am living comfortably from my jobs with around 5 K€ / mo.

What do I do especially ? Nothing. The most part of my time is devoted to find new clients and the other part is to code / test / fix bugs, etc.
Do I have genius ideas ? No. What does make me genius : nothing. Would I wish to earn two billions by selling my company : absolutely not. So relax, stay open minded and code, taking pleasure is important.

Providing what customers are waiting for is the key of success

you can't compare the income from a selfemployed person with someone who's employed.

he needs to pay more taxes, social stuff etc that your employer does for you.

but he has advantages like deducting some things.

this is so wrong... pay someone to get likes?? now i understand how a stupid app is in the main page of google play
but still after install it 10 sec uninstall so what will you get from it?

make a good app and let the nature do it for you

This is what happens in realtities tv, for example.

Worse yet, what happens in the voting policies of many Nations.

Perhaps this is not to be condemned, in a world where if you do not use the cunning you succumb.

These strategies are not elegant, but I envy the people cunning.

(GT uses "cunning", perhaps "foxyness" would be the right word, I do not know)

You need to leverage all the resources at your disposal. Facebook friends, blog, Google+ 5 star reviews, etc... Otherwise no one will find your App, especially if it is difficult to find amongst hundreds of others with a similar name / look.

acctually i dont have facebook only G+, and dont have really much resources to promote my apps so i will relax and let it do by it self.

there are people who try out anything they find on the store, if they like it mouth to mouth "advertising" will do its job.

Finding an app knowing its name is already difficult, let alone find it by accident.

If some apps are even advertised on television, there is a reason.

One way to tell (I do not know if it's just Italian):
"Advertising is the soul of commerce"

(so much so that thanks to advertising whatever crap is sold)

I haven't set anything on AdMob to limit the RPM above a certain level (I'm not even sure if such a setting exists in AdMob). I think it largely depends on what type of ads you display. Banner ads tend to have a much lower RPM, whereas interstitial ads seem to be higher on average (plus I think people tend to tap on interstitial ads more than banners). The apps where I am generating the most impressions are showing only interstitial ads - so that's probably why my average is higher. On Ball Buster! I show banner ads on the game screen, but I also show an interstitial at the end of each level.
