Android Question image size

Hi, what would be the best image size to work with for android phones / tablets @ 100%. I'm being provided some screens that are 720 pixels wide x 960 pixels high. The images are bit squashed at some screen sizes.

I'd like to give him a screen size that he can prepare his artwork for that looks good on most screens.

This is usually annoying problem: the devices have different relationships between width and height (what if TVs had not all a ratio of 16:9 ??? Mobile devices should have the same ratio ), so you can not have a full-screen image well proportioned on all devices.
