With iOS 14 you can delete an app from the home screen while actually keeping the app. Similar to the home screen in Android.
If you did it by mistake then it can seem that installation silently fails. You install an app in release mode or in debug mode while the "run app automatically" option is disabled and you don't see the installed app.
It took me a while to understand that the app was actually installed but it doesn't appear in the home screen. You can manually move it back to the home screen.
