I haven't seen anything referencing existing chat so I took the liberty to make a channel on FreeNode for real time discussion on basic4android. If something already exists, forgive me (and make me aware!) Otherwise, feel free to join me on irc.freenode.net channel #b4a

A good program for IRC is MIRC. DL it from the website and follow instructions on there. But set the program up and login to to an IRC server that carries the channel and then do a channel search choice the chan name from the list and join the channel. it is a real time chat program. There is enough B4android users that if it got popular I'm sure there would be users in the channel 24-7.

I picked the FreeNode network for its programming community support. There's over 6,000 computer related channels and several good android development channels. I routinely see many people online browsing the forums so IRC definitely has the ability to stay active. IRC is a great tool for learning from others and getting quick responses to problems. Although I may be away from my computer or working on my own projects, I'll continue to sit in the channel.

Beyond pc IRC clients and the web browser client there's android phone clients aswell. There are numerous ones on the market. Or write your own in b4a!

FreeNode runs out of your browser and is featureless best i can tell. dedicated irc client is the way to go. you will enjoy the irc experience much more. plus it is much easier to use.:D

You're right, running out of the browser isn't quite the experience as using a full client. I'm presently using YChat on pc and AndChat on android. mIRC is by far the most popular Windows client though. Personal preference, they all can get you to #b4a ! There's been 3-5 people connected throughout today so hopefully popularity will continue to grow!
