wow, looking now what @Erel did in only 11 years is amazing.
and look how @klaus was saying that he doesn't think he will code for android but become one of the biggest contributors in this forum ?

Well, I had to change my mind after Microsoft abandoned Windows Mobile for Windows Phone and nothing was compatible.
I still have a program, B4X Help Viewer, written with B4PPC, but for Windows.

i just sent an email to Microsoft tell them "Many, many thanks for abandoned Windows Mobile for Windows Phone and make @klaus switch to b4a."

at least sometimes they really pick the right choice ?

btw a big thank you Klaus for what you have done here! I hope to see you here around for many many years

i coded in those days using visual basic 2005. and i loved the simplicity of that language. then i wanted to code for android and start learning java using eclipse.
it was so much different then vs so i searched for "visual basic for android" and google found basic4android for me and my life changed :)

i fell in love with b4a in the first 2 minutes. i knew this is what i was looking for and until today i keep using almost 90% for all my apps b4x only.

I still use a few Basic4ppc Desktop utilities.

Basic4ppc is very different than B4X. Many lessons learned from Basic4ppc helped improve B4X.
The designer script engine is a stripped down version of Basic4ppc interpreter.

is Basic4ppc available for download?

To be fair.....
I don't think that I would develop in the near future softare for Android because I have no device and I don't intend to buy one for the moment.
Anyways... This was NOT the birth of B4X, But of B4Android... and the announced death of B4Ppc. It was a bit latter when B4J was introduced, and B4Android became B4A, that the concept of B4X started to make some sense, and culminated with the apearence of B4i! Then even the website changed its name from B4Android.com to what we now know and love!

From non-official sources you can still try to get even an updated version of it...

I mean WOW - look at the opportunity Microsoft fumbled on...

1996 Palm devices introduced – used a stylus to navigate the device’s UI.
2000 Microsoft releases Pocket PC’s, also required a stylus to navigate the UI
2007 Apple releases the iPhone – navigate the UI with just your finger!

(Notice that the iPhone came out SEVEN years after the Pocket PC)

Now imagine if Microsoft created the Pocket PC with a capacitive touch screen (instead of the resistive) and told programmers to create the UI of their app’s to use big buttons, etc so that people could simply use their finger instead of needing a stylus?

Would the iPhone even exist if this had happened?

I relate to this so well.

I joined B4ppc in 2007 because PSION stopped developing their products.
I am one of the first to start with B4Android and one of the first to start with B4i.
For me this forum is the best and only forum I visit, first because of Erel and then for all the forum members.
One can only say THANK YOU!

Beware! ? The original Basic4ppc needed a licence file so if you download a version that doesn't its been cracked and might harbour malware.

Although I do have my own desktop only version of Basic4ppc, thanks to Erel's previous kindness in providing me with the source, it is for my personal use only and there are no other copies out there (Stated to reassure Erel that I have respected his trust ?).

its not a stylus its a "Pencil" ? ?
Sorry, it seems that for Apple, this makes the difference.
I liked the stylus, the objects, buttons and others, for the user interface could be much smaller leaving more space for the concrete data.
But, yes, I have not yet bought an Apple pencil, quite expensive, and for what I use it the finger is OK.
But I had bought a Compaq Concerto, and I still have it, I think one of the predecessors of all tablets, some 28 years ago !!!
I used it several years with pleasure, but it was too early on the market, with Windows for Pen Computing 3.1, mono color.
And it used a Pen, not a stylus nor a Pencil ! But, when the pen approached near the screen, about 1 cm, the mouse cursor was active and moved with the pen movements.

Sorry Andrew, I preffered to use the term "non official" sources instead of just refering to you... I know you value your privacy and don't like personal requests too much.
