just started...emulator issue !?

I folks. I'm on windows Xp Pro etc and I am totally new to running this android emulator. Although, it appears to be all installed ok, when I ran it the first (and subsequently) time the emulator started up ok, I got the screen with ANDROID displayed (in some sort of 'space age' font.....ok!) . I the forums' 'getting started' articles it mentions that the emulator is ready when it either displays a specific screen or the lock screen. IT didn't display either of those at all. It continued to display the above mentioned font etc.

I managed to run the FirstApp ok though.

Are the forum articles slightly out of date now or do you think there is a small issue not yet resolved?

Normally It should take a very long time for the first time to run the emulator.
After the space like text, it should change to the unlock screen.
Just let it run a couple of minutes (20, 30)
