Need help 'No option to enable non-market application installation'

Hello All,

Nice to be back here again! been a long time...
I just got my android device, the Motorola Atrix..my first Android phone.:sign0104:..and just started...I can't install .apk from 'unknown sources' as this device doesn't have an option to 'enable installation from unknown sources' (Maybe the AT&T thing for this phone to disable this option').

What it has only is the following menu:

Manage applications > Downloaded ; Running ; All ; media area

Running Services > ...(running applications)

Development > USB debugging (Debug mode when usb is connected) on/off;

Stay Awake(Screen will never sleep while charging)on/off;​

Allow mock locations on/off​

Double tap home launch(voice command)

From other thread "B4A-Bridge a new way to connect to your device" I have installed the B4A-Bridge from Market but I cannot connect it and get the message 'Please enable non-market applications'.
Safe solution or direct me to forum threads that can solve this problem will be greatly appreciated!

A quick search on Google for 'Motorola ATRIX enable non market' revealed that there will probably be some kind of hacking involved.

Try the search on Google and see if there is anything you would be comfortable using. With a bit of luck you will find a 'non-hack' solution.

I'm not sure I'd want to root or hack a brand new phone, but I wouldn't want to miss out on the fun of using B4A either.

Maybe someone on the forum had the same problem and found a simple answer.

I hope you find a solution.

Steve, Thanks for the advices. I don't want to hack my phone for now...
We have this great community here which I'm sure could give advices on a safer solution or workaround for this problem. While waiting, I'll work for more researches.

It seems like you have two option:
1. Develop with the emulator. When you are ready to test it on your device, upload your program to the market and install it from the market.
2. Find a way to workaround this limitation. Seems like there are ways to do it (search for Motorola Atrix Non-Market).

Well Rioven,

The only solution rooting (hacking) is the one available at the moment. Erel is right, if you really have a need to be sure you can run this on the Atrix, you are probably best off spending the $25 bucks so that you can upload it to the Android Market then install it onto your own device from the Market (that's how I would do it in this case).

The other alternative is wait until someone has a well tested SBF file (basically a copy of the stock ROM for the Atrix) then if you wanted to root instead of always having to rely on the market simply to test your software, you could root it, do your development, make sure it works as you desire, then restore it to stock via the SBF.

I can't for the life of me figure why Motorola would have taken this stance with the Atrix. I can speculate, the least of which not being how it may have operated with their webtop solution and the webtop dock. But even at that, I just dont get it...It's almost the antithesis of Android in the first place.

If you do consider rooting, I have use Z4Root with good results on a Scroll tablet running 2.1 which allows you to temporarily root the device. When you reboot it's not rooted anymore.

I would check to see if anybody has used it on the Atrix before trying it, and I don't know if it will give you the access you require either.

Just another option.

Completely agree. It is especially true as the Android market is almost not filtered so limiting the device to the market doesn't really improve security or privacy.

I had the same problem with Samsung Captivate (galaxy S) that
there is no "enable non-market installation"
It only prevented me from using the WiFi bridge but USB connection with debugging enabled worked just fine as long as all the drivers were loaded.

I have decided to root my Motorola ATRIX and I have already used the 'Super-one click', 'aRoot', and 'Gladroot' with so many trials but without any luck!
I am getting common error which is "psneuter can not access my device".
I got this unlocked device imported here in Hong Kong from shops in Monkok .
maybe has different security embedded on this device? maybe anyone could help me to hack this phone...:sign0148:

This is a very good tip. If you can connect your device with USB in debug mode then you will be able to use it for development as it is.

This is a very good tip. If you can connect your device with USB in debug mode then you will be able to use it for development as it is.
