It goes together with the check for new IDE versions.

I don't see many reasons to check it manually. It doesn't really matter if a library was updated 2 minutes ago or 2 hours ago.

I imagine the use-case many of us sees are when a new version of a library is posted in the forum, and we really want that update in the IDE.

Currently our options seem to be to simply wait for (up to) an hour, until the IDE detects it itself, or restart the IDE to force the check. For the very eager person, both options could be frustrating.

if you update the libraries list, it would be logical to me that the ide would then also directly check for updates

If you see an updated version you don't need to wait for the IDE to detect it. Anyway, if we see that it is needed then I will add it.
