Fabio Volante, CEO of Arduino, told Il Sole 24 Ore:
"The acquisition will enable us to advance our technological growth plan in the more industrial sector. It will allow us to make the necessary leap in scale in terms of cloud infrastructure and to strengthen our position in edge AI, i.e., artificial intelligence running on local devices, independently of cloud systems." The deal with Arduino, Reuters explains, will allow Qualcomm to acquire an open-source platform with over 33 million developers. The companies did not disclose the price of the deal. Qualcomm said that Arduino "will retain its independent brand, tools, and mission."

I foresee 2 things from this...

1 - Arduino clones will become rarer, or simply disapear, thus making the prices go up!!!
2 - Arduino, as a brand, will become more and more an expensive brand, offering features that Makers don't really need, and putting the "Open Source" on Qualcomm's hands, and we can clearly see were that will go...
