German Questions about Girocard usage and POS configuration in Germany

I have a few questions regarding debit card payments in Germany:

1. Girocard popularity:
   Is the Girocard debit card still widely used in Germany? Do you think it will remain one of the main payment methods in the coming years?
2. POS configuration:
   For a business owner (for example, a bar or pizzeria), when setting up a bank POS terminal, should they request the configuration details directly from their bank, or do they need to contact a separate Network Service Provider (NPS)?
3. Practical experience:
   Has anyone here had hands-on experience connecting or configuring German bank POS terminals? Any insights, tips, or details would be greatly appreciated.
