Screen Layout

Hi,

I have ported my first app and it works. I have one variant - my target was the 7" tablet , landscape , I used variant 960 x 600. It is a complex app with numerous functions.

When I used the Cloud what I saw was - I was shooting for landscape only

1. Kindle Fire it was perfect
2. Nook.HD 7" it was about right
3. Nexas 7" it was close
4. Galaxy Tab2 - 10" I have extra space to the right
5. Galaxy Note 5.3" it almost fit and could fit with work

I read about the scaling and it seemed awfully complicated. Can I simple create a variant for the 10" and a variant for the 5.3 " and when it is in the store , the store is smart enough to download to the user the right variant? How does the variant thing work with the final product. It seems I could layout three different variants and it would look better than trying to scale.

Am I missing something?

Thanks Jerry

All the variants are saved in the layout file. The variant is chosen based on the device dimensions.

From my experience it is better to use a small number of variants (one or two) and use the designer script to make your layout flexible. Better means simpler and easier to maintain.

However both approaches can work.
