a) Why not update to B4J v8.50?
b) Perhaps the problem lies elsewhere. Load an example project where the behavior is reproduced. (it is not possible to see it as an image).

I found from your sample that control is different with my. So I just copy from your sample.
but still background of control is filled with color only where there is a value, the rest remains unchanged

Isn't work if you put a colored panel behind the b4xtree1 and the b4xtree1 color will be transparent?

It's a bugs in the Desktop version. Reload the library, with the new version it should fix
