If I get your point correctly, the paid version is actually 100% the same thing except for adding a little touch of "Salt Bae"?
Probably Yes! 🤣
Joke aparts.....
It's sad to say but, giving something for free (especially sophisticated things) let it available to EVERYONE.
And of course that was your goal!
But in this EVERYONE you will get even curious, not skilled programmers, wannabe programmers that feel Bill Gates inside and so on.
All of these can lead you to a lot of bad comments or other.
Making something for payment should keep away the
"Not really interested persons"
and the
"I don't know what this is but I take anyway because it's free."
This rule apply even when you want to sell something.
Even if you want to give it away for free or fit a very low price, initially make it with a bit higher price.
This will keep away the FOR FREE I GET IT ANYWAY and will make you to be contacted only by the real interested ones.
Then you can lower the price or give it for free to who will call you KNOWING WHY they called you.
Sorry for the long post.

That's the hardest part. To offer the thing to the right person.

There is a certain type of person that really believe that if you spend more you get more and buy on price based solely on that. Engineering types and programmers just don't get this. We analyze the alternatives and look for value. It is ingrained. If I had understood this type when I was young I would have built a lot of crap and gotten rich.

In a college business class in the '60s we analyzed a speaker company called Acoustic Research (they still around?) They built the best speaker you could buy - hands down. All the studios were using them for monitors (If your interested they were the first company to SEAL the speaker enclosure and thus control the pressure behind the speaker).
They had a hard time selling them to audiophiles because they were too small and too cheap.
