Android Question USB Storage with Android 4.0?

I have an older controller card with USB ports on it, running Android 4.0.X the newer ones run 4.4 So no android 5 or newer here.

The ExternalStorage library from what I saw requires Android 5.0 or newer.

But I am having a hard time finding anything that works with android 4.0.

any ideas? Thanks.
