Android Question Using smartphone as "not a phone"

Hi all,

As the prices of the smartphones are reducing more and more makes sense using them as a general purpose device for another tasks, not involving a sim card!

I want to use one as as remote control unit using the built in Bluetooth stack.

My question: It is possible to start an application at power up bypassing the "insert sim card" thing?
The phone will boot directly into my application...

Hello,
I am currently using some mobiles as remote units and was never blocked by the fact the SiM was not present. Perhaps should you test with another model. In fact, when there is no SiM card inserted, I never get any warning.
