Android Question Android Device Test

When I wanted to test the applications I had previously written on my Android device with B4A Bridge, the application was displayed quickly on my phone.

Now, the application update dialog box appears first. After I click Update, the Google Play Protect screen opens. When I click Continue without scanning, it wants to read the fingerprint.

How can I do this process in the shortest way? Do I need to change anything in the settings?

You are running into is a combination of Android's Play Protect security tightening and possibly APK signing or installation method changes. It's not a B4A problem—it's Android doing what it was designed to do: protect users from sideloaded apps, especially ones that are unsigned or frequently rebuilt.

What’s going on:

  • Previously: When using B4A Bridge, apps installed quickly because older versions of Android or earlier Play Protect versions were more lenient.
  • Now: Android detects sideloaded apps, and if they’re unsigned with a proper certificate or frequently reinstalled (as is common in development), it triggers extra warnings via Play Protect, including the biometric prompt.

Shortest path forward:

  1. Disable Play Protect scanning for unknown apps (not recommended long-term):
    • Go to Settings > Security > Google Play Protect.
    • Tap the settings icon (top right).
    • Turn off "Scan apps with Play Protect".
    • This reduces friction but increases risk if you're installing from other unknown sources too.
  2. Sign your APKs properly:
    • Use a debug keystore that's consistent. If B4A keeps generating a new debug key, Android sees the app as suspicious.
    • Ideally, sign with your own release key if possible for consistent fingerprint.
  3. Clear app history and try again:
    • Uninstall the existing app version from the device.
    • Clear the cache of the B4A Bridge app and try pushing the new build.
    • Sometimes Play Protect flags updated APKs if the old one had suspicious install history.
  4. Use USB debugging instead of B4A Bridge:
    • If you're constantly sideloading builds, using ADB via USB avoids most of the biometric and Play Protect steps.

In summary:

  • You’re seeing Google tighten the loop on sideloading.
  • Disabling Play Protect scan is the fastest workaround.
  • Long-term, either sign your builds properly or shift to USB + ADB install method.
