By now, everyone has heard about whats to come on Android O.

Wise Limits will apply to background services, preventing apps from running in the background for too long. The goal is to dramatically reduce battery consumption, keeping you up and running through your day.

The background services in Android O will be destroyed after a couple of seconds of app close. Will the same happen to Sticky Services?
If yes, then how are the apps like messaging apps supposed to carry out the background tasks?

I'm using Android O for several months now and the changes do not look dramatic.

Messaging apps do not rely on sticky services. They use standard push notifications to wake up the app when it is in the background.

There is and never was a good style running code "for a long time". Modern OS' work via events (intents). So check your code if you really need a sticky service.

I guess that they will be killed sooner in Android O.

I was going to mention, as far as I can remember, android always did kill dormant or zombie services to free up memory anyways.
