Maybe I don't understand what you mean.
If you copy or move the panel, the children views will follow.

Eg. PnlChessBoard contains 64 small square panels.
Clicking PnlChessBoard will select PnlChessBoard + 64 panels = 65 views selected
But you want to exclude PnlChessBoard (64 views) ?

Yes, or by clicking on the base/activity, press CTRL+ALT and exclude PnlChessBoard and other views external to the panel, keeping selected only the boxes (panels/labels/image views) inside PnlChessBoard

I created a simplified test layout and noticed that CTRL+A ALWAYS and ONLY selects the top-level views, those in the "Activity." In short, it's not recursive.

You can use combination of Ctrl or Shift key plus mouse click to select the views at the views tree.

Try selecting Label1 normally, then scroll down up to the last one of your interest and keep SHIFT pressed before clicking it.
