Android Question How can I disable internet to specific apps without VPN

This is not a programming question:

I just want to know if anyone knows how i can stop some applications on my phone from accessing internet, probably from phone settings.

I tried using Data Usage and limiting background activity but no success.

I saw some 3rd party apps that establish VPN, but I don't like this option as some finicial apps on my phone does not work as soon as VPN is detected
