I'm just wondering why the serial connector is provided as an external B4J program. Isn't possible to compile it as an executable and include it as a kind of plugin into B4R?

Yes this is very powerful usage. But one don't prevent the other. You can use a "modified" version if you like or write your own B4J app. But I still believe this is not a good reason for not being a part of B4R. When you use arduino IDE you can open the terminal rigth from itself. No need to use an external program.
