Android Question Upgrading to latest version from 4.3

i was out from development for last 2-3 years, now i am starting again. half of my apps are in 4.3 and 5.5. i would like to know what things i need to take care of (other than the runtime permission) or i simply open old project in latest version and everything will be taken care of. what is best practices in this case ?
